Economy Design: Moneyless Society
A downloadable project
A very simple life sim economy design for a moneyless society (not necessarily a utopia).
In this world, value is derived not from supply, demand or scarcity, but from the amount of work that is put into making something, which is measured in time: The longer it takes for a material to turn into something else, the more valued it is in among people.
The value of a base material is the same as the amount of days that are needed for it to be obtained. The value of a bundle of wood, for example, is the same as the amount of days a tree needs to reach maturity. Let's suppose this happens in 30 days.
The value of a crafted item is the value of the base material, times the amount of days used to craft it. If we build a chair out of a bundle of wood, and take 3 days for it, then its value will be 30 x 3 = 90.
Which means that when you go to the market, you can trade your chair for 3 bundles of wood.
